Doves represent many things: hope, salvation, love, and devotion; Tiffany's illustrious round stained glass art window depicts a dove ascending among the folds of brilliant sunlight in a bright cobalt blue sky surrounded by a brilliant jeweled background. Tiffany made it his creative life-long goal a "pursuit of beauty" as he labored to improve the stained glass process. He invented a myriad of new shades, colors and types of blended and opalescent glass, in consequence all of his antique decorative windows set the bar for all stained glass. Art Glass also called stained glass is created by a unique technique of fusing hand-rolled architectural glass with unique transparent enamels, then kiln fired at temperatures above 1100 degrees Fahrenheit so the colors actually become part of the glass. The shades and hues will stay bright and glowing with radiant color and provide a stunning view from either side. The art glass window is framed in zinc with a hanging chain for window display and a tabletop easel stand to enjoy this treasured piece in any room.

  • About The Artist

      Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933)
Louis Comfort Tiffany is the eponymous Art Nouveau stained glass artist who was also a painter craftsman philanthropist decorator and designer. Internationally acknowledged as one of the greatest forces of the Art Nouveau style Tiffany made significant contributions to the art of glassmaking and for the revival of the Art Nouveau style in the 1960s.

The son of famous jeweler Charles Lewis Tiffany Louis Tiffany studied with American painters George Inness and Samuel Coleman in the art of narrative painting in Paris. During his time abroad Tiffany visited Morocco and the country's influence is evident in many Tiffany stained glass works such as Magnolia and Irises.

Tiffany's stained glass experiments began in 1875 and three years later he had his own glassmaking factory in New York City. By the 1890s Tiffany was a leading glassmaker because of his unique coloring methods. International fame resulted from the glass he called "Favrile" which translates roughly as "handmade" from old French. Tiffany's Favrile Glass was iridescent and shaped freely with faux bronze alloys and other metals.

Tiffany signed his original stained glass artwork "L.C. Tiffany" or simply "L.C.T." These pieces became immensely popular especially in central Europe where it became quite fashionable during the late 19th and early 20th century and during an Art Nouveau revival in the 1960s.

The French Art Nouveau designer Mile Gall's 1889 exhibition in Paris featured a blown glass display that greatly influenced Tiffany. From 1896 to 1900 Tiffany created a vast amount of blown Favrile glass pieces with mysterious and impressionistic effects.

Caring for your Stained Art Glass:
Any irregularities in your work of art from Glassmasters are inherent in the nature of fine stained glass. Streaking bubbling and striations are characteristic of the hand-rolling process used by glassmakers in the Middle Ages. After the enamels are applied to the glass they are kiln-fired to become one with the glass. Because the colors are part of the glass your Glassmasters stained glass has a lifetime warranty against fading and discoloration. The stained glass may be cleaned with any mild cleaning solution that does not contain any abrasives or acid. Use a soft cloth to dry and polish the surface.
