About The Artist
Guido Reni (1575-1642)
Italian painter Guido Reni painted high-Baroque paintings and was quite prominent in his day. Reni paintings commonly were religious works and mythological scenes that received critical praise.
Reni was born in Bologna and began studying painting when he was only nine years old. After visiting Rome in 1600 Reni decided that emulating the antique and recent Roman arts would be his life passion. Especially admiring Raphael Reni also painted clear light and perfectly formed bodies with a lively ambiance. Like many other painters from Bologna Reni's paintings were thematic such as Archangel St. Michael and verifiably eclectic.
Reni was essentially a classical artist in the academic genre but his elegant paintings and his unrelenting quest for artistic perfection transcend time and style.
