With a provocative, straight-on gaze, crossed legs and a less-than-proper pose for a young woman of her day, this Victorian portrait of the artist's mistress, Elena Vecchi, caused quite a stir when exhibited in Florence by a man generally more known for painting the prominent and fashionable. Though Impressionist images of women reading were a genre amongst themselves, Corcos chose to leave Elena's novels unopened and her intensity evident to convey that her mind was on things other than the printed word. The authentic stretched canvas replica painting captures the original work's texture, depth of color, and even its subtle brushstrokes, which are applied by hand exclusively for Design Toscano. Our imported hardwood frame features delicate, floral details on the borders and is highlighted in antiqued gold tones to enhance the spectacular image.
