Austrian artist Gustave Klimt was famous for his use of elaborate themes of renewal, erotic love, and death. Depicted here Klimt showcases a pair of lovers entranced, embracing in moments before "The Kiss" surrounded with flowers of stylized meadow. Reminiscent of a byzantine icon, this art glass reproduction captures the original work's depth of color in the rich golds, black, and jewel tones and is representative of all Klimt's work. Art glass, also called stained glass, is created by a unique technique of fusing hand-rolled architectural glass with unique transparent enamels, then kiln fired at temperatures above 1100 degrees Fahrenheit so the colors actually become part of the glass. The shades and hues will stay bright and glowing with radiant color and provide a stunning view from either side. The art glass window is framed in zinc with a hanging chain for window display and a tabletop easel stand to enjoy this treasured piece in any room.

  • About The Artist

      Gustav Klimt (1863-1918)
Gustav Klimt was an Austrian painter whose Symbolist style led to the founding of the school of painting known as Vienna Secession or Vienna Art Nouveau. The Vienna Secession was a group of painters who revolted against the trend of academic art in favor of a highly decorative style comparable to Art Nouveau. Klimt's many works include paintings murals and sketches often featuring an erotic yet elegant female figure.

Klimt was born near Vienna Austria and although impoverished during childhood he enrolled in the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts training to be a decorative architect. After helping found the Vienna Succession Klimt entered his well-known Golden Phase where many of his paintings utilized gold leaf such as The Kiss. Klimt's paintings during this time were positively critiqued and successful. These works are considered a maturation of style and are rich with symbolism emphasizing a freedom from traditional art and culture.

Upon Klimt's death in 1918 many paintings were left unfinished.

  • Product Care

Caring for your Stained Art Glass:
Any irregularities in your work of art from Glassmasters are inherent in the nature of fine stained glass. Streaking bubbling and striations are characteristic of the hand-rolling process used by glassmakers in the Middle Ages. After the enamels are applied to the glass they are kiln-fired to become one with the glass. Because the colors are part of the glass your Glassmasters stained glass has a lifetime warranty against fading and discoloration. The stained glass may be cleaned with any mild cleaning solution that does not contain any abrasives or acid. Use a soft cloth to dry and polish the surface.
