Death of Cleopatra, 1874: Framed Canvas Replica Painting
By artist Jean-Andre Rixens (1846-1925), in the Musee des Augustins, Toulouse, France
Item# FAM-DA4331
$169.00 – $450.00
This mournful scene of Egyptian Queen Cleopatra lying nude, her faithful servant Iras by her side, and utterly abandoned is conjured in the cool tones of death in this scene taken almost directly from Plutarch's, Life of Antony. Incorporating a rich balance of mythology and a fascination with the Orient, French painter Rixens displays the skill for historic portraiture that made him a Chevalier of the Légion d'honneur. The authentic stretched canvas replica painting captures the original work's texture, depth of color, and even its subtle brushstrokes, which are applied by hand exclusively for Design Toscano. The imported, delicately carved 4" wide hardwood frame boasts a delicate leaf motif with fine feathered detailing finished in antique gold tones.
