Waiting, Paris, Rue de Chateaubriand, 1900: Canvas Replica Painting: Small
By artist Jean Béraud (1848-1935), in a Private Collection
A fashionable, but quite mysterious Parisian woman waits, perhaps for the lone figure barely spied near the painting's edge. Art critics have speculated whether this work is an echo of the artist's life as an unmarried man. Highly successful French artist Béraud received the Legion d'Honneur in 1887 and was a gold medal winner at the Paris Fair of 1889. The authentic stretched canvas replica painting captures the original work's texture, depth of color, and even its subtle brushstrokes, which are applied by hand exclusively for Design Toscano. The imported, delicately carved hardwood frame boasts a delicate leaf motif with fine feathered detailing finished in antique gold tones.

Jean Beraud (1848-1935)

Jean Beraud was a French Impressionistic and Naturalist Painter, as well as a successful commercial artist. The majority of Beraud's paintings, such as A Sunday Afternoon, were scenes of daily life in Paris during the Belle poque era and style. In 1894, he was awarded the Lgion d honneur.

Beraud began painting portraits after the Franco-Prussian war and received training as a portraitist by one of France's leading painters. A social consciousness as well as his vast talent at communicating the personality of his figures and their anecdotal body language marked Beraud paintings.

Beraud's paintings were often satirical and he unabashedly humorously mocked the opulence of late 19th-century Parisian life. He was also very successful with his depiction of fashionable Parisian women of the 1890s. These superficial representations of femininity were very popular amongst the French and Russian aristocrats who bought Beraud's paintings.
