Andrea della Robbia (1435-1525)

Andrea della Robbia was a ceramic sculptor during the Italian Renaissance like his uncle, Luca della Robbia. Born in Florence, Robbia was the most prestigious sculptor in ceramic glaze of his time. Trained by his uncle, Robbia specialized in the creation of narrative sculptures. Not only was his specialty in friezes, he moved on to lavabos, fountains and large retables. He died in the year 1525 and his workshop was passed on to his son Giovanni della Robbia.
