  • Johann Philippe Ferdinand Preiss (1882-1943)

    Johann Philipp Ferdinand was born on 13th of February, 1882 in Erbach; he died on the 29th of July, 1943 from a brain tumor. The parents of the artist were Karl Daniel Heinrich and Katharina Elisabeth Preiss, born Reichert. The brother of his mother was Elfenbeinschnitzer in Erbach.

    After the death of its parents when he was 15, he lived in the household of his apprenticeship gentleman, Philipp Willmann who trained him in. In the city archive of Erbach, a handwritten is and with 25th 3rd 1898 dated requesting around the Zuerkennung of a scholarship to the visit of the Groherzoglichen vocational school for Elfenbeinschnitzerei. On the 3rd of May 1901, he left his home city.
