c. 200 B.C.
This ancient slashing sword has been described as one of the most devastating battle swords the Romans ever fought against! More than 2,000 years ago, in the 5th century B.C., Celt-Iberian blacksmiths forged swords known as Falcata that had an iron blade and a special curved design made to increase the bluntness of the warrior's slash. The inward curving blade delivered a tremendous blow that could split both opponent's shield and helmet. Considered to be of Greek - or possibly Etruscan - origin, this sword's popularity spread to Southern Russia and also Spain. The high-quality sword blade is hand-forged of high carbon steel, tempered for strength and meticulously polished to a superb finish. Our fullered ancient sword has a distinctive shape for optimum slashing effectiveness and features a serpentine-shaped solid brass handle that ensures a positive hold. Hand-crafted by the famed metalsmiths at Windlass Steelcrafts. Complete with a leather scabbard.
