Joseph Lester

Joseph Lester possesses the unique ability to combine his two loves of sprites and film. This American sculptor recently shrank a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Sprite that graced a Chicago beer hall in the 1920s. The cubist-style woman, which is more than 5 feet tall and weighs as much as a stove, can be seen at the entrance to Sarah Ann's Original Figurines in the Naper West Plaza in Naperville, Illinois. Joseph Lester credits his grandfather, Curtis Earl Lester, with planting the creative seed within him. He was a modern-day renaissance man, Joseph says.

Joseph Lester started by sculpting busts of Mark Twain and Alfred Hitchcock for his father, who was amazed. He has since moved into the contemporary and mystical. Joseph Lester's credits include spiritual-themed wall friezes representing the seven deadly sins, a series of green men and gargoyle bookends, and a set of pumpkin heads with grotesque human faces. His works are sold across the country and Europe exclusively through Design Toscano.
