Claire Colinet (1880-1950)

Belgian sculptor Colinet was well known in her day and remembered for her series Dancers of the World, which included an Ankara Dancer. Colinet worked in ivory, bronze and chryselephantine, as did most other sculptors at the time.

Colinet regularly incorporated theatrical themes into her sculpts, especially with her Dancers. Colinet's sculptures were not stoic and frozen, but were full-figured and energized with strong impressions while being dynamically posed. Colinet's sculptures were exhibited at the Parisian Salons from 1913 through 1940.
