Edmund Blair Leighton (1852-1922)Englishman Leighton was a historical genre painter focusing mainly on Regency and Medieval subjects. Leighton was also a dedicated craftsman; his paintings were exquisitely finished, beautifully painted and highly decorative pictures. He is often associated with the Pre-Raphaelite and Romantic styles.
Edmund Blaire Leighton was the son of the artist Charles Blair Leighton. Leighton's paintings were exhibited annually at the Royal Academy from 1878-1920. Leighton's paintings typically depicted elegant ladies in landscapes or interiors. One of Leighton's better-known paintings is The Accolade. Signing the Register is a Leighton painting that displays his elegant and charming depiction of the mystery and romance of Victorian women.
