Processional Masks of the Devas: Taishakuten
(Earth/Downward) (late 10th Century), Kyoto National Museum, Japan
One of the Deva Guardians of Buddhism said to guard the 12 sacred directions, this entity represents the highest state of existence before achieving enlightenment. Its expressive, ornately carved face is cast in quality designer resin, and then delicately hand-painted to capture its ancient Asian details. A wonderful addition to the walls of any gallery collection!
