The Horses of Anahita Wall Sculpture
By William Morris Hunt (1824-1879) in the Art Institute of Chicago
The spectacular horses in this relief appeared in the culminating work of Hunt's career - a mural commissioned for the New York state capital in 1878, Anahita Flight of Night. A servant of Anahita, Persian goddess of moon and night, leads the vaulting horses from the nearing dawn. Our 19" replica was cast directly from the original, exclusively for Toscano. Cast in fiberglass reinforced resin for home and garden use.
28"Wx12"Dx19"H. 16 lbs.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from dissappointment I order this over a decade ago, and it has knawed at me ever since. This piece meant an awful lot to me, not just from the beauty shown in the catalog's photo, but because I lived in Albany, and Hunt was a relatively local artist. the smooth and beguiling surface of the "cast" sold me so that I saved my money to purchase the larger size piece... Apparently I missed the inference that ONLY the smaller piece was cast directly from the original (huge selling point) . When I received the larger one, I was shocked... my best description is not a cast of Hunts beautiful marble piece but an artist's interpretation carved in cottage cheese with a chain saw. this was a huge expenditure for me, and my disappointment never faded.. I found it very difficult to trust the catalog's offerings again, and the event prevented many future purchases from happening... I wish I had been sharp enough to understand that the smaller cast was the one directly cast from the original, and apparently the one the catalog pic was of, and I would have ordered the smaller piece, and perhaps been a lot more satisfied with my order, and been able to trust enough to do more business here over the past years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A very dramatic wall sculpture My ex-wife loves this piece, and when we moved into our condo we had one huge bare wall that she thought this would be perfect for-in the stairway that led from the front door to the living area. When it arrived we fiddled about with exactly how high to hang it so that would be visible, safe from someone accidentally bumping into it and easy to get to for dusting. When we finally got it situated, guests coming into the house were amazed and awed over both the presentation and the execution of the piece. The only complaint we ever had about it was keeping it clean and making sure that the areas that were deliberately shadowed did not appear dusty and vice versa. It is a sturdy piece of artwork and has held up well in the time it has been in the collection. I know she still enjoys it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding wall sculpture! I first fell in love with this work of art after seeing it in the Chicago Art Inst. many years ago. Little did I know then that one day I would own a fabulous reproduction. While it is not inexpensive, it represents great value for money for any art lover. I was a little concerned, given the delicate looking nature of the cast, how it would fare in shipment to our house in Georgia. No problems - it was very well packed and arrived in great condition. It even survived (in original saved packaging) a 4000+ mile trip to our summer house in Scotland where it now garners rave reviews from any visitors. I decided to 'build-it-in' a recess display area in our White Bathroom so that the horses appear to be leaping straight out of the wall. I added some of the packaging styro foam, along with spray painted white twigs, to add a surreal desolate look to the scene. The finished project looks great - this is my favorite purchase to date from Toscano.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great wall sculpture Although it is not an exact copy of the original, it is a wonderfully powerful work of art. You can feel the hoses bursting away from the dawn. Visitors to my home have comented favorably on this piece. The quality is great and it is easily maintained. It is well worth the price. Also doing business with you was a pleasure.
