Diadumene, 1884, Canvas Replica Painting

by Sir Edward John Poynter (1836-1919), in the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter, UK
So inspired by seeing the Roman nude sculpture known as the Esquiline Venus for the first time, British artist Poynter fleshed out his idyllic beauty in a sumptuous court, tying her hair up before her spa bath. Labeled indecent by society patrons of its day, the work was defended by its artist who claimed the forced introduction of drapery would be a prudery which would increase evil. The authentic stretched canvas replica painting captures the original work's texture, depth of color, and even its subtle brushstrokes, which are applied by hand exclusively for Design Toscano. The imported, delicately carved hardwood frame boasts a delicate leaf motif with fine feathered detailing finished in antique gold tones.
