This gentle scene focuses on the game of Go, one of the four arts thought necessary as the mark of a well-rounded gentleman-scholar in Japan of the 7th and 8th centuries. Originally a hanging scroll mounted on a panel, this skillful work is attributed to one of the most revered artists of the Ukiyo-e school. We’ve finished this print under Plexiglas, surrounded it with an imported, chestnut finished hardwood frame with inside striated edges, and added a solid brass museum plate etched with the title and artist’s name.
