This mantel is beautifully carved in the front, but the top of the mantel appears to be pressed wood, what a bummer. There aren't any brackets included to hang it on and that's another bummer. If it were all wood and had brackets, I would definitely buy another one. It's made in China. I wanted to have a little altar and it does looks beautiful though.

This is our second shelf purchased. For the price, quality, and ease of hanging the piece, you will not be disappointed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by DocS Pretty, but much darker than picture
The mantel looks like the color of oak in the picture, but it looks like a very dark mahogany. Our room is all oak so it looks bad. But if you want a dark mantel, it is very pretty and looks well made. It also took about 2 months to get it.

I was pleasantly suprised when my purchase, The Bounty of Karnington Manor Wood Mantle, arrived earlier than expected, and even more so when I opened the box. It is every bit as beautiful as it appears in the photo. Believe me when I say, and also coming from a person who is a stickler for detail and perfection, that It is Intricately, and flawlessly carved. The finish is perfect and smooth. The color is not too light and not too dark. And the mounting brackets under the top are very sturdy.
I had my husband mount it on one of the walls in my dining room above an antique buffet table, then placed a few cherished items that have been handed down to me through six generations on top. Everyone who comes to my home has stopped to admire this shelf. And their remarkis are always the same, being that it must have been made by someone who has pride in their craftsmanship.
I would recommend purchasing this item to anyone who wants a spectacular piece for their home. It can basically be hung in any room they desire.
