Almost five full feet of ornately hand-carved stylized lions, acanthus leaves and ornate turnings embellish everything from the balustrade's gadroons to the half-foot-wide apron on this Design Toscano signature piece! Requiring well over a week of skilled hand-carving to create, this grande-scale investment in historic furniture art is a celebration of the decorative architecture of the Renaissance. Whether it serves in the library, entry or office, our solid hardwood piece is stylishly distinctive. Simple assembly required.

Good Quality, some issues...
I had looked at this table on and off for over a year before buying it. It's rarely in stock, and hard to buy furniture sight-unseen. But I got a recent discount, so got it. It arrived in only about 4 business days, in a refrigerator sized box, which had the much smaller table box inside, to prevent damage in shipping. Smart.
I never found any instructions, but did locate the small package of screws after 30-minutes of searching through the Styrofoam and plastic wrapping. Assembly should be easy, but mine was defective. On one side, the holes for attaching the legs were in the wrong location (see picture.# A simple mistake at the factory. Of the 4 screws to hold in one side's legs, two were in the right location, 2 were actually on the other side #toward the table top, instead of toward the floor# making assembly impossible. I puzzled with this for about a day. Returning it would be a logistical nightmare, so I finally decided to purchase some new big wood screws, and screwing them directly into the wood where the holes were supposed to be. I spent the better part of a day searching local hardware stores for the perfect screws. I was also a bit disappointed some metal brackets on the bottom to hold the horizontal bar didn't seem to fit right #see picture) but that doesn't really show.
The quality of the carving and finishing was good. One review suggested the surface was rough, but that's simply a result of the final finishing coat, and the first time you polish it, the tiny bumps will be gone. I was worried the carving may be poor or "stamped" carvings, but the quality is good, and does appear to be hand carved. Some cheap furniture uses "wood-colored" paint leaving no view of the wood grain, so I was happy to see the finish does still show the underlying grain.
My real fear now is how the top surface will stand up to wear. As I plan on using it as a writing table, I'm considering buying a glass sheet for the top. I've considered applying a few coats of polyurethane or lacquer to protect the top, but may wait to see if it holds up. The graining on the top piece shows no joints, so I wonder if it's a very thin layer with questionable durability. Time will tell how it holds up.
So far I'm happy with the purchase, but got a bargain discount, and put a bit more work into the assembly than I wanted to. But it looks great!

Sleek, beautiful, classy as sin
Like the other reviewer here, I purchased this table to actually use as my dining room table instead of a desk. The assembly is very easy and once it's put together, it's impossible to tell it was ever segmented. It's very sturdy, and has already withstood my two year old dancing on top of it, one of his favorite past times these days. The carvings are immaculate and intricate, and it's big enough that it can sit seven people comfortably, even eight if some of them are kids.
The only caveat I'll mention is that if you do use this as a dining table like I do, get a table runner and some place mats. There was an incident with a liquid spill on the surface, and the soda sat in the sun for a few hours, which caused some warping to the top finish in one tiny spot. I think this only happened because it's soda, which is caustic, and because it sat there for so long in direct sunlight. Casual spills have no effect on its glossy, beautifully finished top.
Really though, I bought this on the 20% off sale, and you would NOT be able to go into any in-person furniture sale and buy something this exceptional for such a low price. In fact, my last table, which was particle board, cost as much as this. Toscano furniture can make you feel like a million bucks, even when you have a limited budget. Definitely worth the money, like all their products. This is going to be a table my kids will someday fight over who gets to keep it!

Couldn't wait for this piece to arrive. Dealt with a firm called Conway shipping, that had delivered it. Nightmarish, lost 2 days of work waiting for it.
The desk was for the most part okay but there was a one inch square indentation on the left side skirt, the finish seemed somewhat dull, the 4 carved heads at each corner had naked wood that had not been stained at the bottoms and in 2 of the four mouths. Also the wood was rough and not sanded smooth on parts of the top trim.
Other then that it is a nice looking desk over all.

a unique design and a fine piece of furniure
I bought this table to add to my Medieval collection and to use it as a dining room table. It was well received by all including relatives and visitors. The clawed feet stick out a bit but they are an integrated part of the design. I reccomend this table because of its beautifully carved legs, skirt and corners which allow it to stand alone in whatever room you decide to put it.
