Lucas in October
(1535) Castle of Pau, France
This rich Renaissance tapestry belongs to the range of tapestries called “Les Mois Lucas” (The Lucas’ Months), named for the Flemish painter who created them. Symbolizing the month of October, a time of late harvest and the turning season, it is rife with rich colors and overflowing with fascinating detail. Woven in France on a jacquard loom, it accommodates an optional rod and finials or hangs easily on metal hangers in its lining.
