"Rodin's Thinker" Statue: Medium
Le Penseur (1902) by Auguste Rodin (1841-1917), Musee Rodin, Paris
French sculptor Rodin's most famous work, "The Thinker" was originally part of a larger work called "Gates of Hell," based on The Divine Comedy; a poem by Dante Alighieri. Instantly recognizable the world over, it has been described as "summing up the spirit of the day" as a monument to heroic labor. Originally named The Poet; the piece was part of a commission by the Musee des Arts Decoratifs. Our Design Toscano statement piece is cast in quality designer resin and finished with a rich, green bronze patina.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice Nibble This piece is a nice rendition of the original. Not a prolific game-changer for a room but a worthwhile accessory and a good value. May 3, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great statue! As the description indicates, this figure was inspired by Rodin's "Thinker." It is not an exact reproduction, so keep that in mind if that is what you are seeking. This male figure is less massive than Rodin's. It is far sleeker, but still quite muscular. The posture is also somewhat more upright. The artist beautifully captures the essence of the original while conveying a more modern sensibility. The detail is very impressive, as is the quality. One thing I will point out is that this piece is anatomically correct--a fact I mention in case a potential buyer might find such a fact problematic. June 28, 2013
