Staverden Castle Peacock on an Urn Garden Statue
by artist Henk van der Eljk
White peacocks have been kept at the Netherlands' Staverden Castle since the year 1400 when the Duke of Gueire lent his lavish forest home only under the condition that it still keeps white peacocks to provide feathers for his helmet. The peacock feathers are now presented annually to the Commissioner of the Queen in Gelderland. Sculpted atop a gloriously arched urn, our Design Toscano exclusive still-proud peacock statue was sculpted almost a yard high and cast in quality designer resin in an antique stone finish.

Gorgeous We purchased 2 of these peacock statutes and painted them 24kt pure gold and also purchased the largenpedestals for them to go on and put them on top of 2 bookshelves beside our 2 story fireplace and they make such a grand statement but not too heavy to work with easily. Just gorgeous! You can keep them white or spray them any color you wish or dark background and then sponge over with lighter color would be gorgeous too! Lots of options but the detail pops with them painted gold. June 22, 2015
Completed the garden We have bought a number of statues from Design Toscano and have always been impressed with the value we are getting. This piece is no exception. May 3, 2015
Nice quality and detail I was surprised at the quality of the detail. It is also a very sturdy/solid piece. I am so pleased I purchased this. I know I will be enjoying it for years to come. April 14, 2015
Beautiful piece of sculpture at a reasonable price. Product arrived intact. Beautifully crafted. A real compliment to our pool area. January 15, 2015
A BEAUTY FOR THE GARDEN I love this piece and planned to place in my yard, but it is now inside the entrance of my front door and looks wonderful. I would recommend this piece to anyone who love peacocks.. November 17, 2014
A Little Bit of Europe in Texas I bought this item for my wife to be set on a pedestal in our boxwood garden behind a fountain. It's the perfect accent for this small area. Item arrived quickly (4 days from order to delivery!) and was packed appropriately to protect a slender neck and the small fan-shaped comb on its head. In order to keep it on the pedestal against squirrels, wind, etc. I drilled the small hole in the bottom large enough to run a pole from the ground, through the column base and into the peacock statue so now it sits securely with no worries. Looks great in the day and especially nice at night lit from beneath. Raking light sets off each feather in this nicely detailed piece. Adds a spot of European classicism to our North Texas back yard for a great price (at 20% using one of Design Toscano's emailed sales codes). June 8, 2014
Very elegant It's difficult to gauge from the web-site the actual size of the statue, and it's acutally a bit smaller than it appears. But, the size ended up being perfect for the space I had intended. Very classy with nice detail. Piece came undamaged. The neck is delicate, but seems otherwise study; but I wouldn't use it as a handle or leave it outside to overwinder in colder areas. I had been wanting the piece for awhile, and finally jumped on it when it went on sale. May 15, 2014
Not meet my expectation Very thin upper half..(neck and face) not noticable from far. October 9, 2013
