The Thinker (Le Penseur) (1902) Bonded Marble Statue
By Auguste Rodin (1840-1917), Musée Rodin, Paris
Arguably French sculptor Rodin's most famous work, "The Thinker" was originally part of a larger work called "Gates of Hell". Originally named "The Poet," the piece was part of a commission by the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. Instantly recognizable, it has been described as summing up the spirit of the day and is a monument to heroic labor. This bonded natural marble replica captures the artist's ability to express feeling through sculptural expression.
