Starfish Dancer Quality Lost Wax Bronze Statue
(c. 1928) by Demetre Chiparus (1888-1950)
Cast directly from a French antique sculpture, this mesmerizing Art Deco statue by one of the best known artists of the early 20th century is often likened to the image of famous dancer, Josephine Baker. Though only her face remains uncovered, the artist has captured a remarkable fludity in the sensuously suggestive scales, squid, starfish and other crustaceans strategically placed on this beautifully stylized sea nymphbronze statue. This Design Toscano, high quality lost wax bronze sculpture is hand-rubbed to a multitoned patina and set atop a solid black marble base. A timeless Bronze sculpture, this is classic art at its finest.

Very nicely done statue with unusual and interesting motif The figure is nicely proportioned for believable human representation, which is often an artistic challenge in this medium. The figure and base is nicely made, balanced, appropriately padded at bottom, and fits nicely in narrow or compact vertical spaces. Solid and very stable. A great decor item that fits into many contexts, such as on the counter in kitchen or bath, niche, FR, mantel, etc. March 30, 2012
