Gentlemen's Plush Grand-Scale Arm Chair

Hand-carved solid hardwood replica with details usually found only in true antiques
From an era when gentlemen routinely “retired to the drawing room” to sip cognac and discuss the politics of the day, the wide-seated comfort of this plush, oversized chair beckons the return to a bygone era. Deeply hand-carved acanthus embellishes the massive, solid hardwood back, arms and legs, testifying to the fact that they require a full week of carving by a master artisan. The lush, hand-tacked, maroon and antique gold brocade upholstery makes this Toscano-exclusive investment in furniture art as beautiful as it is comfortable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Simply flawless I purchased this chair several years ago and now searching for another. The one I bought years ago is still as perfect as the day I bought it. Sturdy, easy to clean, seat is still firm (not sagging in seat) and simply elegant. I've had several people offer to purchase from me... But there is no way I am parting with the chair... Ever! Worth every penny!! That's why I'm buying another..... April 12, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Exactly what I wanted for the look of the room The chairs came packaged very well and were in excellent condition except one small mark on the wood on one of the chairs. The seat of the chair is a bit stiff and I would not use is for a long time, like for watching tv. The chair was exactly what I wanted and basicly a peace of 3d art. The visual effect in the room with my off white curved English loveseats is wonderful. I am really glad I got them! March 3, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Not The Quality I Expected I was anxious to receive this chair for my study. On the plus side the fabric is quite beautiful. It is a firm chair but I actually like how that feels. The size was also nice. It came to my door very well packaged. Now here are my other observations. 1) Sloppy carving 2) The stain isn't really a stain but more like a paint. I'm guessing they use this technique to cover up the poor quality wood. If it were a "good" solid hardwood then you would allow the grain to show and be enhanced by the stain like all quality furniture. For all I know it's not even made of hardwood or they are using a lot of filler. 3# hand-tacked <-- This term should not even be allow to be used in the description. I reupholstered my piano bench and had to pull out over 200 upholstery nails and hammer them back. These are NOT real upholstery tacks #nails# but rather a series of connected plastic look-alike upholstery tacks that get hammered every 5 or 6 spaces. It's obvious it comes off a roll and they quickly tack them in. 4) Below the arms there sits a little vertical column of wood on each side. They apparently forgot to "stain" in between those and you plainly see bare wood 5) Buyer beware - The chair is overpriced for the quality. While it is a unique style and at first glance looks impressive, upon closer inspection the true quality of this piece reveals itself clearly. December 31, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by These chairs are perfect for our room! The excellent and unusual design and look of these gentlemen's chairs were the reason we were willing to wait 8 months for their delivery. I wasn't looking for comfort necessarily (tightly upholstered so a pretty hard sit) -- they are great for our purposes. They look elegant next to the fireplace in our gentlemen's room! I am having 2 ottoman made to go with them and velvety back pillows to add to the comfort. These chairs are very special - you won't see them in anyone else's home for sure! November 15, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Looks great, but ... Looks great, but the cushion was far from plush. Too firm, not really comfortable. November 9, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Absolutely magnificent piece of furniture. Have had this so far for a few weeks and it has been beyond expectations. Actually came week's earlier than anticipated. Well worth any wait. I bought two and arranged as a drawing room in front of a fire place. Perfect. November 9, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by a rare find of a chair This is one beautiful chair for a living room or den. Actually I purchased two of these chairs and believe there is nothing that would match how they look in front of the fireplace. In the daylight the upholstery appears light in color but in the evening it seem dark in hues. The wood is beautifully carved and the front feet are large and masculine. Solid chair worth the long wait. I have not seen anything like this anywhere else. A reproduction of an antique is top notch for me. I don't have to look at something that may look and smell old and wonder what it looked like when it was fresh and new. I'll take the new. Perfect gentleman's chair! Oh, and it is better looking than as pictured in the ad. October 16, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by I love my chair! I bought this chair as an accent chair for my family room. It looks authentically old world. The fabric is lovely. It's a rather firm, but comfortably supportive chair. It's just not the type of chair you'll ever catch yourself dozing off in, but it's also not what I intended it for. My family & friends love to sit in it, I think it makes them feel regal! July 28, 2013
