Girl Skipping Rope Authentic Foundry Iron Mechanical Coin Bank
Nice for display only
If you're expecting this bank to operate like the original, then you're in for a disappointment. The original Girl Skipping Rope Banks had a very graceful action that was achieved by complex inner mechanisms. Because of this, it was a difficult bank to produce and very expensive for the late 1800's. That was why so few of them were sold at the time which makes for their great rarity today. The bank offered by Design Toscano is very nice in appearance, however, the workings are over simplified and not very reliable. There is an inner coil spring that you tighten with a small crank. When you trigger the bank, be sure to keep your finger on the lever or it will jump back up and jam the movement. The effect of the girl skipping rope is very fast, and due to spring slippage it not very reliable. All in all, I would say that it is nice to see a reproduction of this very rare bank. And despite its shortcomings it's not a bad value for the price. If you intend it mainly for display you won't be disappointed.

She really does skip rope.
A bank from a century ago... very amusing, delightful, ...a wonderful piece of nostalgia from the past.
