Due Cigno Settee

Graceful “Twin Swans” are handcarved of solid mahogany on this antique replica
This exquisite early 19th century Italian-inspired settee boasts two intricately handcarved swans whose wake wraps to form a gently bowed backrest. You’ll sink into the 8-way hand-tied suspension, upholstered front and back in a quality, muted celadon jacquard. The glowing mahogany of this stylish, period work of furniture art enhances its historic lines and adds to the deep-seated comfort of this Toscano exclusive created by our master carvers. Due Cigno Settee 4 5 1 1
historic elegance for a modest price My research suggests that the design of this loveseat and matching chair can actually be traced back to Empress Josephine's Chateau du Malmaison. The carving on these chairs is a bit more rustic and not likely to be as precise, and regrettably, lacking in the striking paint treatments of the originals. The fabric is a mild green with a faint floral repeat, whereas a French Empire pattern such as bees, wreaths, or stars, would be killer. I find the chair seat somewhat lacking in cushion and an extra pillow is needed, but that doesn't apply to the loveseat, which is comfortable. All in all, I think these pieces supply a lot of style and quality for the price. September 21, 2014
