Florentine Gargoyle Statue: Large
LOVE my gargoyle!
He arrived in time for Halloween, but he is so very COOL, he has become a permanent fixture on my front porch. My only issue is that he was smaller than I expected, given that he is described as "Large." However, that said, I am sure that Toscano had dimensions indicated, and I just glossed right over that detail. Regardless, he is a gargoyle with an attitude, and he looks amazing. Love him. Might get another to keep him company during his nightly vigils...

Love the whimsical quality of this gargoyle. Wish it were heavier though. I had to glue it to a heavy base so it would stand up in the wind.

Small version cute but not really same as bigger one
I bought the "small" version. He's cute and fun but not what I thought I was getting. On the positive side, on sale it was a great deal and I am certainly glad to have him. He has a lot of happy personality and the spread wings look grand. There is excellent depth in the modeling, so the features stand out well with no need of extensive shading in the paint. He looks like a happy pup pleased to be on guard with my other gargoyles.
However, I thought it would have the same level of detail as the "large," but the small version is quite different. The tiny picture gives no real hint as to what it looks like. It certainly resembles the big picture, but it is not what I expected. What's different? Well, the surface texture is very smooth and, as mentioned, lacking in detail. The "fingers," for example, are plain; where are the claws? The muscles are suggested, not defined. The wings in the back are smooth, without veining. (Actually, it's not made to be seen from the back, really. There is not even a tail.) The "Plinth" looks like a featureless lump. It really doesn't live up to the picture of the large version. Toscano should take a good photo of it and offer it as a different piece altogether. Or, perhaps the larger is a parent and the smaller is a less developed child.
Also, there are small flaws in the casting that should have been sanded out. Normally, I'd just do it, but as the paint is all one color, I doubt I could match it well enough.
So, to sum up: Worth the sale price but the lack of a good picture leads the buyer into thinking it is more detailed than it actually is. I wish I could have afforded the bigger version!

A great addition to the garden.
I am doing a Monster Park in part of my garden based on Bromarzo, north of Rome, Italy. I also call it the 'Gargoyle Garden.' I am using statues from Design Toscano for effect. It is turning out beautifully.

Great Gargoyle for the Price
For the price, this is a great addition to any garden. Because it's resin, it's not quite as heavy as stone or concrete, but it is still durable and attractive. However, I'd like to see this become available in a slightly larger size for larger spaces.

Have not yet found a permanent home site for him, but will be placing him soon.
Although his permanent home has not yet been found we are confident that his overall appearance will contribute to our home's decor. His "muscular physique and menacing scowl" will surely keep any demons away.
