Bastet, The Egyptian Sun Goddess Sarcophagus
Bastet, The Egyptian Sun Goddess Sarcophagus (circa 1185 B.C.)
The goddess of joy and protector of women
Ancient Egyptians believed cats to be the embodiment of Bastet, the goddess of the sun’s warmth and life-giving power. Cats were so revered that they were often mummified upon death, and buried in cat-shaped sarcophagi. This oversized sarcophagus is a replica modeled after a museum piece from the time of Queen Twosret of the 19th dynasty. Our highly detailed, cold cast resin reproduction is hand painted in a rich ebony and gold-metallic finish and features brass accents.
