David Bonded Marble Statue
David Bonded Marble Statue
By Michelangelo Buonarrotti (1475-1564), Galleria dell' Accademia, Florence
This 1504 masterpiece is one of the world's most recognizable works of art and an enduring symbol of Florence. "David" stills the heart as the young shepherd who slew the giant Goliath with a single stone, with our foot-tall, bonded natural marble replica translating this perfection of man - noble in reason and admirable in body - into a museum-quality sculpt that's sized to fit almost anywhere.
Small: 4½"Wx3"Dx12"H. 2 lbs.
Medium: 8"Wx4½"Dx20"H. 15 lbs.

A magnificent masterpiece!
Artist and art historian Giorgio Vasari once said: “Anyone who has seen Michelangelo’s David has no need to see anything else by another sculptor, living or dead.” Whether you're an artist yourself or just someone who appreciates the talent and beauty behind art, you will likely agree that Michelangelo Buonarroti's marble sculpture of David is a masterpiece unlike any other. It's one of the most beautiful, recognizable pieces of art in the world, and if it were possible, who wouldn't want to own a copy of it? I first saw Design Toscano's replica David statue in 2005. It was love at first sight. 11 years later, I was finally able to purchase one and it was more than worth the wait! This bonded marble statue is superb in every sense of the word. It is indeed a museum-quality sculpt, with graceful, smooth, flowing lines worthy of Michelangelo himself. The detail work on this piece is immaculate. I'm an artist myself, and this David was the perfect addition to my studio. It has a nice weight to it – heavy enough to be safe and sturdy, but not so heavy that you can't move it easily. And the 12” is the perfect size for display in any room of your home. With an exceptionally accurate likeness to the full-size Italian original, this statue will not disappoint. I can see no room for improvement here. It's just beautiful!

Excellent detail and must be great when larger
Excellent detail and a classic subject deserving of a larger replication. Worth considering a truncated form if necessary for affordability

Purchased two of these statues, one for each of my children. They both spent time in Italy and saw the real "David". They both loved the statues. I was very pleased with the quality. Very good value for the money. They actually look very expensive. My secret.

Near Perfect Small Version
The addition of the adjunct to the original statue detracts slightly but is as close as you can get in a small scale. The bonded marble is a perfect material.

Nice accent piece
To those admirers of Michangelo's work this is a nice accent piece on a small scale. If you are fortunate enough to have seen the real thing or a full size reproduction the beauty of his work is unquestionable. Some years ago a much beloved department store in my area featured such a reproduction displayed on the stores rooftop as part of an Italian days promotion. It was an awesome sight. This small scale version is a nice accent but some details of the work are lost in the smaller scale. That being said, it is a good purchase.

This is a beautiful piece of art work.
I saw the statue of David in the seventies. I had regrets on not buying a small statue replica at that time. I am very pleased with this one. This is very well made and it is a true likeness as I recall. The quality is superb. This is a beautiful piece of art work. Debra

Michelangelo was an Italian Renaissance painter, sculptor, architect, poet and engineer whose name is immediately recognized as an art master. Along with his contemporary and rival Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo is considered an archetype of the Renaissance Man because of his mastery of different skills.
Michelangelo was born near Tuscany, Italy. He began his training in painting with Domenico Ghirlandio and sculpting with Bertoldo DiGiovanni very early in life and showed great aptitude for both trades.
The best-documented artist of the 16th century, Michelangelo is most famous for his sculpts of David and the Pieta. It is said of the latter, It is certainly a miracle that a formless block of stone could ever have been reduced to a perfection that nature is scarcely able to create in the flesh.
Michelangelo also created one of the most recognized Renaissance sculptures, the colossal David, in 1504. A symbol of Florentine freedom, David permanently established Michelangelo s skill as a sculptor with extreme technical care and vivid imagination.
Michelangelo is also known for painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome, which took four years to complete, starting in 1508. He was originally commissioned to paint the 12 apostles, but opted for a more complex theme of Creation, depicting the downfall of man and the promise of salvation. Among the most famous Michelangelo paintings on the Sistine Chapel ceiling is The Creation of Adam.
In addition to magnificent paintings and sculptures, Michelangelo also was a successful architect, having created the faade for the Basilica of San Lorenzo, Medici Chapel and Laurentian Library, all in Florence
