Rated 5 out of 5 by G1776 Excellent Craftmanship!
I have owned this item for some years now.
A wonderful addition. Very hefty and lock mechanism works perfectly.
If you purchase this item, it will stay in your family for generations to come.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Frost I can't believe I paid this much for something with casting-errors on the lid
Or maybe those errors are in the original, and that is why they don't let you see the lid properly. Couple globs of metal needed to be tidied up; they are in the arches on the right half of the lid. Also, the "red velveteen" inside is an ugly olive drab. It does seem to be sturdy, the lock works, and the relief has almost as much detail as the carefully-lit photo shows.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Lynch Looks better from a distance, but still worthwhile purchase.
If you must have an authentic, medieval, International Gothic-style keepsake or trinket box, get this, but if you're simply looking for a neat Jewelry box, I would advise you to look at some of Toscano's other designs.
My main complaint is that the details on the exterior lack sharpness of detail, and appear very blunted, or washed-out. This isn't apparent from the pictures on the site, but is quite apparent in person. The way in which the panels of the box have been joined looks somewhat cheap as well, though by all means it appears to be quite sturdy.
Still, it's a very unique design and has a very authentic feel to it, it feels very weighty and substantial in the hand. The hinges work smoothly and the lid is surprisingly heavy in a good way. The locking mechanism is reliable but has a tendency to 'catch' which can make it difficult to turn. The quality of the interior velvet lining is average, my main complaint is that I received green velvet rather than the advertised red.
The size is appreciable and the interior has a good storage capacity. I would not advise using it as a jewelry box, as it lacks compartments, trays or slots, making it unsuitable for delicate womens' rings or earrings, or easily tangled necklaces or bracelets. This is definitely a box for nick-knacks and trinkets you trust are sturdy and can stand to pile up on each other.
It's not a bad buy, but unless you absolutely must have this particular design, as I did, I advise you to keep your options open.
