Column of the Maenads Sculptural Pedestal
By artist Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828)
Maenads, the frenzied worshippers of the god Dionysus (Bacchus), are frequent images in ancient Greek art. Here, the languid, stylized trio encircles an exquisite pedestal, hair and garments flowing in a dance of pleasure. Inspired by an antique Houdon garden sculpture and cast in faux stone designer resin, it adds instant decorative art and architecture.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Disappointed with very poor quality I've purchased over $1500 of other products from Design Toscano and have been mostly pleased. This, however, is a huge disappointment. This is NOT faux stone designer resin. It is cheap looking smooth gray plastic. It does not at all look or feel like faux stone. Other items from Design Toscano that I've ordered that advertise as designer resin don't necessarily look like designer resin but typically don't look like cheap plastic the way this does. I ordered six of these, they ALL look (and feel) cheap. They look like they would cost $30 in some bargain store. One of the six I ordered doesn't even have a flat (horizontal) top but its sloping at probably a 20 degree angle. Many things are made in China and can be well made (like my iphone). This quality looks appropriate for a $30 item, not $130. August 10, 2016

Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect! This piece fits perfectly in a small (14" x 14") nook in our dining room. It's also thematically perfect for supporting a small wine rack. Love it! January 17, 2014
