Mademoiselle de la Danse Sculpture
By Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux (1827-1875), Paris Opera House. From the Curator's Collection: Direct cast of the museum original.

The spirit of this gorgeous piece was so mesmerizing that it won Carpeaux the Grand Prix de Rome. Sculpted in 1869 to adorn the facade of the Paris Opera House, the beautiful face and evident motion is captivating in this enchanting work. Our exclusive is cast in designer resin directly from the original and hand-finished in faux stone to highlight the sculpt.
17½"Wx10"Dx24"H. 15 lbs.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The subject is lovely, but the execution is poor. I've always liked this wonderful sculpture by Carpeaux and have even seen the original, which is delightful, with the girl's expression of joy. However, the Toscano replica is rather cheap and nasty in execution, with some of the mold seams showing and a smear of resin across the girl's decollage that mars the look of the piece from the front. They probably also need to change molds more frequently or something because a significant amount of the detail in the girl's clothing and around her head has been lost through the casting process. I'd suggest that there are probably more carefully made replicas out there if some searching was done.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks like stone but feels like plastic Bought this as a present largely because it advertised a "faux-stone" finish. I assumed this meant the resin was covered in a stone-like finish but the texture was more like plastic. It does however look great sitting on your mantel or bookshelf. Impressive size and appearance, but when it comes to being up close to it and touching it there's something left to be desired, especially for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mademoiselle is a hit! What a stunning bust! Was hesitant to order her, but fell in love with her before I even got the shipping box totally opened. Great detail and the sculpture itself is amazing. Looks like she is moving as you look at her. I am thrilled with this purchase. I will enjoy her for many, many years. Thank you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Captivatingly Delightful When viewing this sculpt, the subject is so alive that you might expect her to turn her head in your direction at any moment; you can virtually hear her carefree laughter. The item description almost says it all. I have a special love for this piece, so cutting just a little slack, I will mention that the applied "faux stone finish" seems only to hinder & obstruct her beauty rather than to highlight it. But overall, a delight to finally own.
