Venus of Arles Sculpture
(c. 365 B.C.) By Praxiteles, Louvre, Paris

Elegant in a spa bath or a formal garden, our erotic beauty in the classic Greek-Roman style is destined to become one of your favorite Design Toscano sculptures. Unearthed in 1683, this classic depicts the goddess of love with "the apple of discord" in her right hand. Cast in quality designer resin to capture its amazing detail, it is finished in stone to replicate the ancient original. Any serious gallery would be proud to display this nearly two-foot-tall version of one of the world's most famous images of Venus.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value for the price It was a good value for the price, but the color was more gray than white and the material appeared to be "cheap". Also the dimensions of the statue did not quite match the dimensions stated in the website.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks good, but not as a focal point The "Venus of Arles" is sometimes said to be "by Praxiteles," which is so misleading as to be basically a flat-out lie. #You can read the whole story on Wikipedia.# No works "by Praxiteles" survive today. Still, it's a graceful and charming work of #mostly# classical sculpture. This replica, available in different sizes, appears accurate. Its main drawback is, it's made of polyresin. Polyresin doesn't look like marble or any other stone; it looks like polyresin. No matter which size you get, it'll come off best if you don't draw too much attention to it. It's great and economical for filling up this corner or that garden niche, but not something you'd want to place front-and-center. It's not gonna make people's jaws drop. On the plus side, polyresin is much easier to care for, especially outdoors, than marble or any other stone, and also much lighter and portable. And the price is good, so it's a value, yessirree. Consider placement too. Here, Venus is depicted with her head down and glance even further down. You'll want to have it so her head is above the viewer's; elsewise, they'll be tended to tilt their head to the side in an unconscious attempt to meet her gaze. I do recommend it, as long as you're not thinking it will be the centerpiece of your décor. And whichever size you select, I highly recommend placing it so Venus's head is well above that of any viewers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A lovely addition to my collection... This graceful Goddess of Love is presently on the top of my tall book shelf in my living room, and her classical resplendence dominates the scene. She appears to be quite durable in construction, and is undoubtedly a statue that will have a special place in my collection for years to come. As always, the packaging provided by DT was impeccable, insuring the statue reached me in one piece.. I would definitely recommend this item.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Manly Venus I have purchased from Design Toscano before and will certainly do so again. My intent is to use the sculpture for cast drawings, so my point of view is one of careful observation. Overall, the statue is a terrific value for its size. What I feel is lacking, however, is the feminine features of her face and upper torso. If you are looking for an element of decor, it is certainly a pleasing effort, but look closely, and the masculine overtones are too apparent for my taste.
