The Lament for Icarus, 1898 Canvas Replica Painting

by Herbert James Draper (1864-1920), Tate Gallery, London

Mythology tells us Icarus escaped from Crete on wax and feather wings. They melted when he drew too close to the sun, he fell to his death and was washed ashore. Englishman Draper's 1889 work, his favorite, depicts the mourning of Icarus by a trio of beautiful sea nymphs. Our authentic stretched canvas replica captures the original painting's texture, depth of color, and even its subtle brushstrokes, which are applied by hand. Our replica European style, bright gold-toned, ribbed frame is cast in quality designer resin with an acanthus leaf and floret border that draws the eye toward this beautiful image.

Beautiful piece I'm a huge fan of Herbert Draper, and to see his work so grandly produced is inspiring. The frame is of impressive quality and compliments the tragically beautiful scene therein exceptionally well. The reproduction work is admirable and the visible brushstrokes covered in a light glaze for protection make the piece seem almost museum quality. I have it displayed in a prominent place in my living room and it always recieves attention and compliments. I will definitely be procuring another piece of art from Design Toscano in the near future. The only downside was that it took slightly over a month for it to be shipped to me, but patience is a chief virtue when it comes to art, and this piece was certainly worth waiting for. A representative from Design Toscano was very helpful with keeping me updated on the progress of production and shipping. August 18, 2014
