Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful set! I got this chess/checkers set for my husband for Christmas and Wow!!! It is really gorgeous. The board is quite heavy - like stone and very attractive and the pieces are really gorgeous. I was most pleased and my husband was quite surprised and loved his set.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Chess Set My son was happy with this chess set. I wish we could have gotten him the British Museum official set, but it was just too expensive with the shipping charges and the board being extra. This is the next best thing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A great value and artistic treatment of this classic chess set i own a miniature version of this set from the British Museum Store where most of the original sets are part of the museum's collection. The museum set is off white and red as the sets were thought to appear in 1150 ad and i do like that better , but I understand if other mfg 's can't imitate the museum set . It was the only shortcoming of this set.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A useable piece of ART...a showpiece. I purchased this Chess Set due to its aesthetic value, & after reading about the Isle of Lewis, I knew I had a show stopper on my hands. The Chess pieces are exquisitely detailed, intriguing to look at & almost too well designed to would be nice to have a velvet bag or something ornate To place the pieces in. The board is beautiful, however; the sides where the Checkers go don't fit so well. Minor flaws, but nothing can take away from the historic value of this board. Well worth the moneys spent & it's overall value, period.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Historic Piece of Art I love this board. Besides playing it, it makes an awesome display piece. My only issue is the 2 openings where you can place the checkers. You can fit all but 2 checkers of each color, and the covers don't sit securely enough in place. But overall the appearance is awesome, its a very heavy sturdy board, and is almost too good looking to actually play with! I do recommend this and rate it an A- overall. KEN

Rated out of 5 by from I bought this chess set a few months ago as an art piece, it has a fascinating history and this is the only set of it's kind. I love the Celtic pattern on the board. I lived in the Isle of Lewis for 2 years after I was married, and my daughter was born there, that is why I am drawn to it's history. If you're interested in the history too, look it up on the Internet, you'll be surprised at what you read.
