andquot;Bacchusandquot; Statue (1497)
Very true to the original sculpture!
The good news is that the Bacchus appears not to have been resculpted but cast (with minor modifications) from a reduction of the original and so it is about 95% true in detail to the actual piece. That said, the casting was hasty and a bit sloppy. The many air bubbles in mold which filled with resin in the casting process, forming numerous extra blobs in many of the crevasses. Also there are many voids. As a restorer I was able to repair most of the faults and I feel fortunate to have such a great and inexpensive copy of a very interesting piece. However, I would have gladly paid more for a better casting.

Michelangelo's Bacchus - Nicely Done
I was happy to find this Bacchus on sale at a nice price. It is positioned in my dining room under my Venetian chandelier. It looks even better under candlelight. Just the right touch of decadence for my diner guests.

Poor quality resin pieces stuck on statue
The statue arrived well packed and in one piece. It smelled of plastic resin. The statue was chalky and pieces of resin were stuck on the statue. It was a rough finish and not smooth like my previous statue of David purchased/ I was very disappointed in the quality of the statue.
