 Pierre-Auguste Cot (1837-1883)
French painter Pierre-August Cot painted in the Academic Classic style mythological subjects and portraits.Cot began his studies at L cole des Beaux-Arts in sculpting and painting. He debuted at the 1863 Paris Salon with paintings of historical scenes, genre and allegorical subjects. Cot s genre paintings and portraits were very popular among Paris aristocratic class and he became very successful. Cot s paintings, such as The Storm and Le Printemps, possess strength mixed with grace, although these figurative works are more rare than his portrait oeuvre. |
