Pat Rankin

Pat Rankin is an American born artist. Growing up on Chicago s South Side, he enjoyed the freedom of the blue-collar neighborhoods of the sixties and early seventies. Much of his youth was spent drawing pictures for amusement and building monster models when not getting into mischief with his pals.

It wasn t until he moved to the suburb of Brookfield that his dream of being an artist started to become a reality; soon enough, tapping into his creative spirit to express himself artistically became both a fascination and obsession The attention from his peers, as well as encouragement from his teachers led Rankin to receive classical training in Public Art at the Art Institute of Chicago, where he met museum display shop owned Richard Rush. Rush took Pat Rankin on as an apprentice, and after learning advanced professional skills over time, Rankin ventured off on his own at 22.

The next few years were spent freelancing his trade for the many Italian-owned statuary companies in the Chicago area, where Pat Rankin honed his skills and gained life experiences vital to his future successes. When he began sculpting for statuary legends Jack and Leo Lucchessi, Rankin found a place to exercise his newfound talents and gained keen insight into the world of giftware figurines.

Pat Rankin designs gargoyles, such as Oscar: the Gargoyle with Attitude, for Design Toscano, and this relationship is one of many direct results of the Lucchessis s influence. Focusing on his work rather than notoriety, he has managed to deflect the public eye, avoiding its influence on his unique character and mystical, medieval creations. Today, Rankin still works out of his studio in Brookfield and his contemporary work can be found everywhere from China to Italy.
